Halogen-free PPGng-HF and PvPGng-HF cables: when to use them

Halogen-free PPGng-HF and PvPGng-HF cables

Halogen-free cables are a mandatory requirement for metro systems, tunnels, ships and enclosed spaces where it is hard for people to evacuate during a fire. Their key difference from PVC cables is that they do not release hydrogen chloride or other halogen-containing gases when burning.

When halogen-free cables are mandatory

  • Metro systems — all stations, tunnels and depots
  • Tunnels — road and rail
  • Ships — as required by the maritime register
  • Enclosed spaces — basements and server rooms without ventilation
  • Facilities with large crowds — at the designer's discretion

Grades of halogen-free power cables

PPGng(A)-HF is the basic halogen-free cable. P — polymer insulation, P — polymer sheath (both halogen-free), G — no protective covering, HF — Halogen Free. It does not release hydrogen chloride when burning.

PPGng(A)-FRHF is halogen-free plus fire-resistant. It keeps working for 180 minutes during a fire. For life-support systems: emergency lighting, fire pumps and smoke-extraction ventilation.

PPG-Png(A)-HF / PPG-Png(A)-FRHF are flat halogen-free cables for concealed wiring in walls.

PPGng(A)-HF-KhL / PPGng(A)-FRHF-KhL are cold-resistant halogen-free cables rated for operation down to -60°C. They are used at facilities in the Far North and the Arctic.

PPGEng(A)-HF / PPGEng(A)-FRHF are screened halogen-free cables for automation circuits and low-current systems.

XLPE cables

PvPGng(A)-HF is a cable with cross-linked polyethylene insulation (XLPE) and a halogen-free sheath. For cable lines rated 6–35 kV. The advantages of XLPE: high dielectric strength, low dielectric losses and a long service life (30+ years).

PvPGng(A)-FRHF is a fire-resistant XLPE cable. For critical high-voltage lines.
