KVVG and KPPG control cables: types and applications
Control cables are designed for connecting instrumentation and control devices (I&C), sensors, control circuits and signalling. They differ from power cables in their smaller conductor cross-section (0.75–6 mm²) and larger number of cores (4–37).
The PVC series (KVVG)
KVVGng(A)-LS is the main control cable. K — control, V — PVC core insulation, V — PVC sheath, G — no covering. For connecting sensors, actuators and control circuits under standard conditions.
KVVGng(A)-FRLS is a fire-resistant control cable. For systems that must keep working during a fire: emergency shutdown and fire automation.
KVVGEng(A)-LS / KVVGEng(A)-FRLS are screened control cables. The copper screen protects low-current signals from interference when the cable is run alongside power cables.
KVBbShvng(A)-LS / KVBbShvng(A)-FRLS are armoured control cables. The steel armour allows them to be laid in the ground without additional protection.
The halogen-free series (KPPG)
KPPGng(A)-HF is a halogen-free control cable. For metro systems, tunnels and facilities with limited ventilation.
KPPGng(A)-FRHF is a halogen-free fire-resistant control cable. For life-support systems in metro systems and tunnels.
KPPGEng(A)-HF / KPPGEng(A)-FRHF are halogen-free screened control cables.
How to choose a control cable
| Conditions | Grade |
|---|---|
| Standard conditions, buildings | KVVGng(A)-LS |
| Fire automation | KVVGng(A)-FRLS |
| Alongside power cables | KVVGEng(A)-LS |
| Underground installation | KVBbShvng(A)-LS |
| Metro, tunnels | KPPGng(A)-HF |
