An optical patch cord is a segment of optical cable terminated on both sides with optical connectors. The cord may have either identical connectors at the ends or different types of connectors. Optical patch cords (another name for patch cords) have various lengths. Custom production of cords of arbitrary length up to several dozen meters is possible. Standard patch cord lengths are from 1 to 5 meters. Patch cords differ by the following characteristics: - connector; - polishing type; - fiber – multimode, single-mode; - connector type – simplex, duplex. A wide variety of patch cord modifications is obtained as a result of various combinations of all characteristics. UPC is the connector polishing type. It characterizes a practically flat connector. Connectors with this type of polishing are most often blue in color. An optical connector is terminated on both sides with connectors of the same type (SC/UPC). The connector body is made of plastic and is rectangular in cross-section. The connection and disconnection of this connector are performed linearly (the connector is fixed in the socket using a latch).
