KVT vacuum contactors, open type with natural air cooling, designed for integration into complete units, are intended for use in starters, control stations, for switching the inrush and cut-off currents of squirrel-cage induction motors and other power consumers in remote electric drive control systems with heavy-duty operation in AC 50-60Hz circuits, up to 1140V. Vacuum contactor is the next stage in the development of popular industrial air electromagnetic contactors. Unlike air contactors, where the main contacts are switched in an atmospheric environment, the contacts of KVT vacuum contactors are located in hermetic vacuum flasks. Due to the high dielectric strength of the vacuum gap and the absence of a medium that supports arc combustion, the electric arc breaks up and extinguishes. However, a special advantage of KVT vacuum contactors is their at least doubled electrical endurance compared to air contactors.
