GOI Paste No. 1 (abbreviation for State Optical Institute) is an abrasive material used for grinding and polishing surfaces of steel, plastic, non-ferrous metals, glass, ceramics, etc.
The main components are chromium oxide, various binders, and other additional components.
GOI paste has gained widespread use due to its ease of application and the ability to perform grinding and polishing of surfaces at home.
Selection of polishing paste:
ATTENTION! It is important to correctly select a paste with the appropriate level of abrasiveness. The accidental use of large particles and (or) excessive force can lead to surface damage.
Depending on the abrasive properties, the paste is divided into the following types:
PASTE No. 1 ("fine" or "finish"). Has an almost black color with a greenish tint and abrasiveness of 0.3-0.1 μm. Chromium oxide content from 65 to 75%. Used for final, mirror polishing.
PASTE No. 2 ("fine"). Material is dark green in color, having an abrasiveness of 7.0-1.0 μm. Chromium oxide content from 65 to 77%. Used for fine surface finishing to achieve a mirror shine.
PASTE No. 3 ("medium"). Has a green color and abrasiveness of 17.0-8.0 μm. Chromium oxide content from 70 to 80%. Used for creating a clean surface and obtaining a uniform shine.
PASTE No. 4 ("coarse"). Material is light green in color, having an abrasiveness of 40.0-18.0 μm. Abrasive content from 75 to 85%. Used to obtain a matte surface and remove small scratches.
Technical characteristics:
Appearance: solid green mass
Composition: chromium oxide 65-75%, organic binders and auxiliary activating substances 35-25%
Net weight: 100 g
RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE
1. Apply a small amount of paste to a polishing wheel, flannel cloth, or other similar soft material. Do not apply the paste directly onto the surface being processed.
2. In some cases, to dissolve the paste, it is permissible to pre-moisten the wheel or cloth with kerosene or gasoline.
3. For even distribution, rub the paste applied to the cloth or wheel onto the metal. This is necessary to remove large pieces of abrasive material that could damage the surface.
4. Add a small amount of industrial oil to the surface being processed.
5. Polishing can begin, adding paste periodically. During the process, do not make sudden movements or apply great force, as this can lead to the appearance of scratches. Perform polishing until the required shine is achieved.
6. Upon completion, wash the surface with kerosene or remove the abrasive residue with water.
PRECAUTIONS
Keep out of reach of children.
