Optical mounting cords (pigtails) are used for terminating fiber optic cables with connectors by welding a ready-made piece of cable, pre-terminated with a connector in factory conditions, to them. Such cords are made from cables with a diameter of 0.9 mm and, accordingly, have a connector on only one side. Mounting cords can be both single-mode (yellow sheath) and multi-mode (orange sheath). Mounting cords can also be uncut, terminated on both sides. They differ from regular patch cords by a smaller outer sheath diameter and, consequently, greater flexibility (but also greater fragility). Uncut cords allow for measuring optical characteristics before installation if necessary. After measurements, the cord is cut in half, thereby forming two standard mounting cords.
