PT fuse holders are designed to protect power transformers, overhead and cable lines in three-phase AC networks with a frequency of 50 Hz and a rated voltage of 10 kV. The PT fuse holder is used as a replaceable element for PKT high-voltage fuses. Functional purpose of the device is the selective disconnection of the protected circuit when the permissible current exceeds the limit, including in short circuit (SC) modes characterized by currents in the thousands of amperes. The principle of operation of the holder is based on the current-limiting effect: when the fuse link melts, an arc discharge occurs, which is extinguished through the deionization of the plasma channel. The arc quenching process is implemented within the volume of quartz sand filling the internal cavity of the holder. The micro-spaces between the sand grains ensure intensive deionization, preventing the spread of the arc and excluding the transfer of SC currents to the protected equipment. Structurally, the PT holder includes the following elements: a porcelain insulating tube acting as the enclosure; a fuse link placed inside the tube; quartz sand filling the internal volume to ensure arc quenching; two hermetically crimped bases providing mechanical fastening and electrical contact of the holder in PKT fuse holders.
