PT fuses are designed to protect power transformers, overhead and cable lines in three-phase AC networks with a frequency of 50 Hz and a rated voltage of 10 kV. A PT type fuse is used as a replaceable element for PKT high-voltage fuses. PT fuses in size 1.3 (103) are dual and consist of 2x tubes with a diameter of 72 mm. Functional purpose of the device - selective disconnection of the protected circuit when the permissible current value is exceeded, including in short circuit (SC) modes characterized by currents in the thousands of amperes. The principle of operation of the fuse is based on the current-limiting effect: when the fuse link burns out, an arc discharge occurs, which is extinguished through the ionization of the plasma channel. The arc quenching process is implemented in the volume of quartz sand filling the internal cavity of the fuse. The micro-spaces between the sand grains ensure intensive ionization, preventing the spread of the arc and excluding the entry of SC currents into the protected equipment. Structurally, the PT fuse includes the following elements: a porcelain insulating tube acting as the body; a fuse link located inside the tube; quartz sand filling the internal volume to ensure arc quenching; two hermetically crimped caps providing mechanical fastening and electrical contact of the fuse in the PKT fuse holders.
