Structurally, wood screws are a metal rod with a wide thread pitch applied at a 40-45 degree angle, a sharp tip, and a head. Such fasteners are used when cladding surfaces with wood panels, joining chipboard or plywood parts, assembling drywall structures on a wooden frame, etc. These fasteners are made from various types of steel, which is additionally treated with a protective coating to prevent metal corrosion. For example, phosphated screws - the rods of such wood screws are protected against rusting by a phosphate coating. They are typically used to fasten wooden parts and fix gypsum board sheets onto a frame of wooden slats.
