Structural screws significantly outperform universal screws and standard wood screws in their characteristics. Structural screws are intended for use with all types and grades of wood. The uniqueness of structural screws lies not only in their visual geometric differences but also in their mechanical properties. The ability to undergo maximum deformation during bending without fracture is due to the ideal balance of strength and ductility of the steel. The tip of a structural screw has a special cutting edge that allows it to easily cut through even hard layers of wood without the need for pre-drilling. The unique thread shape allows these screws to be used for work close to the edges of a board. A special countersink after the threaded part of the screw reduces torque during work by expanding the pilot hole and effectively pulls the connected parts together. Screws with a washer (wide) head are used in connections where increased resistance to head pull-through is required.
