• PURPOSE Portable grounding (grounding device) is intended to protect operating and maintenance personnel on disconnected sections of overhead lines (ZPL) and switchgear (ZPP) with voltages from 0.4 to 220 kV in case of accidental voltage supply to this section or the appearance of induced voltage on it. • SCOPE OF APPLICATION Portable groundings are used in electrical installations that do not have stationary grounding knives. They are used as the primary means of protection against electric shock on overhead power lines of direct and alternating industrial frequency current with voltages up to 1kV – ZPL-1, from 1 to 10kV – ZPL-10, from 10 to 35kV – ZPL-35, from 35 to 110kV – ZPL-110, from 110 to 220kV – ZPL 220. • PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION The protective action of portable groundings or stationary grounding knives is that they prevent voltage of a magnitude dangerous to personnel from appearing beyond their installation point. When voltage is applied to the grounded and short-circuited section, a short circuit occurs.
